Guyana hosts over 90 competitors from seven CASA territories (Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Island, Guyana, Jamaica & Organization of Eastern Caribbean States) for the 2011 Junior Caribbean Squash Championships. The seven day Championship is into the final day of the Individuals Event with the team event getting underway tomorrow. The Guyana Squash Association and their volunteers should be commended for hosting such a smooth and enjoyable event. The hospitality and attention to the athletes’ well-being is second to none.
It’s apparent that squash in Guyana is very much alive and well. In addition to a strong National Association Guyana is being represented in 7 out of the 8 finals of the Individuals Event. The big matches are drawing impressive crowds of spirited local youth spectators. The future for squash in Guyana continues to be bright with the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport building 2 public courts as a part of the newly created National Racquet Center.
Bermuda plays off for 3rd place in a total of five matches this afternoon. Check out the tournament website at: http://www.guyanasquash.org/cjst2011/
